Description of the course -
Designed for people working in the information sector; journalists,
designers, managers, teachers and media students. The concept
was defined in response to the rapid changes in the workplace and
the organization of new media, including the roles of journalists,
technicians and designers. The possibilities brought about by multimedia
techniques (digital work-processes) have created new job-profiles
in traditional time-based media, and demand an updated defintition
of information architecture.
These new techniques require equally new visual modes of perception,
a new understanding of graphic design and form, new thinking in
sound and visual production, and new organisation of media work-processes.
The aim is to focus on the most advanced multimedia productions
in education, art and entertainment, to enable participants
to become leaders in the design, management and production of leading
edge multimedia productions.
- Give a theoretical and a practical introduction to various multimedia
productions and illustrate the radical changes that have occurred
in narration, design and technique due to the advent of interactivity
for the end-user of digital media.
- Give theoretical and practical education of storytelling in
multimedia, information architecture, usability testing, copyright
and law, cognitive theories.
- Create a forum for an exchange of expertise and analyses.
- give a thorough introduction to software suitable for the production
of ambitious interactive websites and DVD´s.
- Give the participants an opportunity to work closely with experts
in Information architecture, interactive production and multimedia
for education
- Produce output/educational material useful for participants
and partners in their future multimedia productions.
All material is in English. The course was initiated as a cooperation
between The Institute
of Continuing Education in Iceland, The Institute
of Graphic Arts, The Association
of Icelandic Journalists, The Danish company IDEOZ,
The Irish company IFTN
and the Vidzemes
Augskole in Valmiera in Latvia.
